1. Introduction
Kova (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Kova Chrome extension, web application, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: Email address, name, and authentication credentials when you create an account.
- User Content: Text highlights, annotations, workspace configurations, tags, and other content you create within the Service.
- Communications: Information you provide when contacting us for support or feedback.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: Feature usage patterns, interaction metrics, and error logs to improve Service quality.
- Device Information: Browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and screen resolution.
- Page URLs: URLs of pages where you create highlights, used solely to display source attribution in your workspaces.
2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not read, index, or store the full content of web pages you visit.
- We do not track your browsing history beyond the specific pages where you actively use Kova.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To personalize your experience and deliver relevant features (e.g., relevance scoring, AI-powered chat).
- To process your highlights and build your private knowledge workspaces.
- To communicate with you about updates, security alerts, and support.
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues and security threats.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). We use industry-standard security practices, including regular security audits, access controls, and vulnerability monitoring. Your workspaces and highlights are stored on secure cloud infrastructure and are private by default.
5. AI Processing
When you use Kova's AI features (relevance scoring, RAG chat, content synthesis), your highlighted text is processed by our AI systems to generate responses. This processing is performed on your curated content only — we do not use your data to train general-purpose AI models. AI-generated responses are grounded solely in your workspace data.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data with:
- Service Providers: Trusted third-party services that assist in operating the Service (e.g., cloud hosting, authentication providers), bound by confidentiality agreements.
- Legal Requirements: When required by law, regulation, or legal process.
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with prior notice.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete your personal information.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Object to or restrict certain processing activities.
- Withdraw consent for optional data processing.
To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@kovadex.app.
8. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Upon account deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
9. Chrome Extension Permissions
The Kova Chrome extension requests only the permissions necessary to function:
